“such an amazing local effort to give kids with epilepsy the joy and fun of going to Sleepaway camp at Boggy Creek”

David Bar, Vice President of Grid City Electric said “I am proud and thankful to the McElroy family for allowing Grid City Electric to be a part of such an amazing local effort to give kids with epilepsy the joy and fun of going to Sleepaway camp at Boggy Creek. Events on the Island have a very corporate feel these days. There is something different and special happening here. The love, the families coming together, the Fire Department chipping in; this event is everything for these kids, I couldn’t resist helping the cause.”

The story behind this Long Island Fundraiser is nothing short of inspiring.

On September 4, 2010, Joseph McElroy was found unresponsive and suffered a fatal seizure. Joe was just an everyday kid and had not shown any epilepsy symptoms in years. He had passed away that day. Janine McElroy, his sister and the Family suffered a crushing loss but decided to create beauty and hope is his wake.

Every year, an event is organized with the East Meadow Fire Department where $20 will get you music, drinks, and food all for a good cause. Everyone who wants to show support is welcome to join the fun.

Joseph McElroy’s loved Camp Boggy Creek and attended until he was 18 years old.

His scholarship was sponsored by the Epilepsy Services Foundation, Inc which sends children with epilepsy to the camp at no expense to the families. After his passing, the Epilepsy Foundation named their scholarship the Joseph McElroy Camp Boggy Creek Scholarship Fund.

Every kid deserves to have a fun summer. Lets all come together and make it happen.
